Basic Power Guide

All machines in Nova require power for them to work. There are several ways to power your machines and also store power that isn't being used yet. Here you will learn the most basic way to power your machines, especially useful for those just starting out with Nova.

Power Generation

The easiest and strongly recommended way to start power generation is using a Furnace Generator.

Nova requires a lot of iron. Always grab more than you think is necessary, you'll need it.

Have a good stock of basic cables. They can be upgraded later or used in your setup.

When placed, you can interact the with generator by right clicking on it. Similar to a normal furnace, you can place burnable items into the generator which will burn said item and produce power. Depending on the item, it will burn instantly or go on for quite some time, which also decides how much power you will end up with. At base level, you will receive 80 J/p and every upgrade can give you more power per item.

Power Storage

To make sure you do not waste any power and have a way to buffer your power grid, you choose to use power upgrades on your machines to increase the amount of power a machine can hold or making power cells.

Each tier of power cell can hold increasing amounts of power. To make a higher tier power cell, you require its direct lower tier equivalent. Craftable versions go from basic to ultimate.

Remember that charged items will lose their charge when used in crafting!

By default, power cells will power adjacent machines as long as the cell itself has power. That means for a simple setup, you can place a power source right next to the cell and have your machines placed next to the cell so they get powered.

Power generators all have a limited amount of storage, but it is recommended to not rely on that and immediately have proper storage to not block power production.

Power that is inside a machine is reserved for itself. You will not be able to extract it once the machine has been charged.

Power Connection

There are a few ways to connect Nova machines to your power grid. The simplest and "built-in" way is by placing your machines next to a power source or a power cell. Machine-to-machine powering is not possible.

But what if your power source is further away from your actual factory or your system is too big to be powered by just one cell? Introducing (power) cables:

Cables not only connect your machines with each other and power, they even transport items and fluids around, all-in-one!

Similar to the cells, cables have different tiers and are able to transport items, fluids and power at increasing rates.
